What's the difference between a simple and surgical extraction?

Hopefully, a dental extraction is not necessary and we can work to save your tooth. If however, a dental extraction is necessary there are two types of extractions that we can perform. A simple extraction and s surgical extraction.

What are the Differences in Extractions?

  • A simple extraction generally only requires putting appropriate pressure on a tooth to loosen it and then remove it in one piece. Some teeth are too broken down for a simple extraction.
  • A surgical extraction requires the dentist to remove a tooth in multiple pieces, often having to move the gums slightly to access the tooth and then place stitches to allow for proper healing.

If you believe you are in need of a dental extraction, contact our Phoenix AZ dentist office and we can work with you to determine the best option.
